Description
Chaffin House: This house is located on the northwest corner of Church and First Streets. During the mid and late nineteenth century the property belonged to Thomas Ferguson and there was a house on this plat before the Chaffin House. The Chaffin House, still present in 2022 albeit somewhat remodeled, was constructed in 1905. Before this time Lycurgus Chaffin owned property on Main Street near the corner with Steam Mill, that house was demolished at some point between March 1913, it can be seen in several flood photos, and the 1929 Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps. This is a photo of the Chaffin family Standing in front of their home on Church Street. The lady on the porch is almost certainly Clara Emma Baechle Chaffin (4/25/1879 9/8/1933), the man is Charles Lycurgus Chaffin (1/6/1881 11/30/1955), the baby and lady on the sidewalk are unidentified.
