Description
Henry Brown's Store: This building has a long history in the town. Located at 514 Main Street, like many others, the building started as a one-story wooden structure (UA58 7516 far right), it wasnt until around 1900 that the old wooden building was demolished and a new three-story brick one replaced it. In 1869 the plat was owned by William Baldwin or V. C. Duclos the plat seems to straddle the line between plats owned by these two men.1888 it was listed as a tailors shop but was vacant by 1899. By 1907 the three-story brick building had been constructed and housed Henry Browns Clothing Store. The Knights of Pythias Hall was relocated to the second floor of this new building Lodge 172 of the Knights of Pythias was known as the Robert Owen Lodge. This historic photo was taken in front of the store. Five men are standing out front, three are listed on the photo: Henry Brown, Frank Schaffer, and Walter Savils, it is not known who is whom.
