Description
Walz Pharmacy Building: This building is located at 512 Main Street. This building started as a one-story wooden structure (UA58 7516 second from right) before 1888. The 1888 Sanborn Map shows it as a brick building, by that point, joined with the Centennial Saloon Building on the plat to the north, left side of the Walz Building both plats were owned by William Baldwin on the 1869 New Harmony Plat Map. Between the late 1880s until some point in the late 1890s the ground floor was home to the Palace Saloon (UA58 7509 fifth from the right side). By 1899 the saloon had been replaced by a grocery store which persisted for some time. This photo shows a construction worker in the process of repairing the front face of the building.
