The house is an original Rappite structure and was built in 1820. In 1841 the house was purchased by Robert Henry Fauntleroy for his wife Jane Dale Owen Fauntleroy. The Minerva Society, a literary club, was founded in the house by Constance Fauntleroy, Robert and Jane�s daughter, in the year 1859. The house was given to the Minerva Society in 1925 as a historic site, and then to the state of Indiana in 1939 for the same purpose.
