Description

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church: The church was first organized in 1841 and in 1843 the west wing of the old Rappite church was given for use by the Episcopals by Alexander and Anne Maclure. At this time the old burial ground was also given to the church, which was bought back by the Rappites in 1846. Then in 1850 the Episcopals sold the west wing of the old Rappite Church for $1000 and in 1854 St. Stephens Church was constructed, the North Street location where the Lenz House now resides.1888 saw the construction of a new belfry add to the church to accommodate the new bell. In 1911 the new church was built, and an addition was made to it in 1927. The church is still present as of 2022. This is a photo of the church on North Street, after the belfry was constructed.
