The building has a long history, starting as a one-story wooden structure (UA58  7516 second from left) before 1888. Indiana Bell Telephone Exchange and office was located on the second floor in the late 1890s. It would eventually be moved next door to the second floor of the Centennial Saloon Building by 1907. The First National Bank was located in the building, opening at some point between 1899 and 1907. The bank was at this location when the Monitor Corner fire occurred in August of 1908 but had disappeared by the 1920s (UA58  7512 far left). The Lemon Tree ice cream parlor was located in the building, in the 1970s. This building, along with the other historic buildings on Main, was renovated in the mid-1970s in the efforts to preserve the heritage of New Harmony. The Lemon Tree was eventually replaced by The Main Cafe in the late 1970s. This photo shows The Lemon Tree just after renovations had begun. The old layers of paint had partially been stripped off of the building.}, url = {http://library.usi.edu/record/1552310}, }
