Description

Murphy Auditorium: Murphy Auditorium is located at 419 Tavern Street and was constructed on the plat just east of the Working Men's Institute from 1911 to 1913, using the Doctor Edward Murphy Fund, and was built as part of New Harmony's centennial celebration of 1914. In 2014, the town's bicentennial, Murphy Auditorium became the new home of the concert series Under The Beams, originally housed in the Rapp-Owen Granary. Today, the auditorium is owned by the University of Southern Indiana and is the home of The New Harmony Theater with a seating capacity of 360 people. This is a front view of the building, the north side, facing Tavern Street. The sign on the left side of the photo indicates the wiring was completed by Swanson-Nunn electrical company.
