An analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was conducted, controlling for difficulties in emotion regulation and gender identity. The ANCOVA indicated that depression was significantly lower in Fall 2019 than in the remaining five semesters under investigation. Results of these analyses appear to indicate that depression rose significantly in students after the onset of the pandemic and implementation of social restrictions. This negative effect appears to have had a lasting impact and the pandemic appears to have had deleterious effects on mental health regardless of emotion regulation abilities and/or gender identity. Limitations and implications for researchers, clinicians, and professionals in higher education will be discussed. 001552630 6531_ $$adepression 001552630 6531_ $$aemotion regulation 001552630 6531_ $$aCOVID-19 001552630 6531_ $$amental health 001552630 6531_ $$awell-being 001552630 7001_ $$aPowless, Matthew$$uUniversity of Evansville 001552630 7001_ $$aPilot, Zachary$$uUniversity of Southern Indiana 001552630 7001_ $$aBouvier, Valentin$$uUniversite de Bordeaux 001552630 7001_ $$aBrown, Elisabeth$$uUniversity of Southern Indiana 001552630 7001_ $$aEalum, Mikaila$$uIndiana University 001552630 7001_ $$aIron Rope, Lakota $$uUniversity of Southern Indiana 001552630 773__ $$tMidwest Social Sciences Journal 001552630 8564_ $$9b48ccb3c-4043-49e2-9157-52d3060a0748$$s547253$$uhttps://library.usi.edu/record/1552630/files/Depression%20Throughout%20COVID-19.pdf 001552630 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1552630$$pGLOBAL_SET 001552630 980__ $$aMANUSCRIPT
