Abstract

Indiana Tube Corporation is a company located in Evansville, Indiana. They specialize in the manufacturing of carbon steel tubing. This tubing is used for many applications that require carrying fluid through a small tube. These industries include automotive, large truck, heavy equipment, oil and gas, agriculture, heating and air, and refrigeration applications. To manufacture the tubing, they have several tube mills. At the end of the tube mill there is a coiling system which coils this tubing. Our project concerns only the coiling system of one tube mill. This tube mill is proposed to be purchased to coil small diameter, thick wall tubing. Indiana Tube has given us part of an existing coiling system which is to be modified to coil this new specification of small diameter, thick walled tubing for the new tube mill. Our group was responsible for paper designs of modifying this new coiling system. Our group has made component selections, designed structures and components, calculated appropriate specifications for components, designed the layout for a Human Machine Interface controller, which operates the coiling system, and mapped out an implementation plan for Indiana Tube. The project plans and designs are now ready to be given to Indiana Tube for the new coiling system.
