Abstract

Safety is a major coneeni wlieii loading bulk cargo barges. In the last 15 years. 150 people have been fatally injured while working on barges. By utilizing electroinechanical motion tracking devices, the. time spent on barges by loading personnel can be reduced, thereby decreasing the risk of injury and death. Within the last decade, inexpensive and accurate motion tracking sensors have been developed for use in portable devices. This prototyjre utilizes an Invensense MPU-9250, along with an embedded comimling platform, to provide wireless feedback to the operator of a barge load-out facility. The system integrates with an existing Allen-Bradley Logix50()0 supervisory control system, allowing the operator to have direct and clear indication of the motion of the barge.
