TY - GEN AB - This project is covering the development of a magnetically suspended belt conveyor system that would be able to operate in high-end cleanroom environments. The design would have sets of rollers held in place by permanent magnets so that it would levitate in mid-air. Thus, eliminating friction produced from conventional roller designs. Cleanroom environments are critical to the developing and manufacturing of many products today; from pharmaceutical medicines, to medical equipment, to food products, to semiconductors, to microprocessors, and many more high-end products. The maintaining of these clean rooms is heavily reliant upon clean and safe equipment used throughout the process. The design is intended to be a proof of concept for a feasible clean room conveyor design that could potentially fulfill the strict requirements that clean room systems need and provide a cost competitive product to other systems. The research and design process will have us looking into many different designs proposed, patents, research, and published papers around bearing solutions. These bearing solutions will be the cornerstone to the conveyor design. Many different motors will also be researched to see which is best for the application. This project will be designed, manufactured, and tested throughout the course of the Fall 2019 semester. And the completed project and prototype will be presented at the end of the Fall 2019 semester on Tuesday December 3, 2019.
