Abstract
The purpose of this design project was to develop a control loop system in which a user's
oxygen saturation level can be regulated. This control loop allows blood oxygen content to be
regulated and kept at a stable level. The system checks a user's saturation level on site and
corrects it by delivering oxygen gas if levels are low by operating a solenoid valve. The flow of
oxygen will be directed to a wearable mask. The additional oxygen is added to the air that is
already available through the mask when the user breaths in. Great care must be taken to ensure
that the oxygen within the system does not combust, as well as preventing the system from
delivering toxic amounts of the oxygen to the user. The results of this experiment yielded a quick
response time from the solenoid valve whenever the oxygen data indicated low levels, moderate
response time of the controller to calculate proper oximetry data received from measuring
instruments, a need for proper calibration of the measuring instrument in order to receive
accurate data, and electrical safety indicated by the design specifications. This design will need
further testing beyond the scope of this project to be considered ready for human trials.
