He was 61-years-old. Paige started working at SIUC in 1966 as an assistant professor of elementary education. He was promoted to associate professor in 1972 and to full professor in 1983. He has written more than 20 books. His main research interests were mathematics and global awareness. He received his bachelor's degree in 1959 and received his master's degree in1960, both from the University of Northern Iowa. He received his doctoral degree from Indiana University in 1966.
