Summary
The Catholic Church converted many of the native peoples of North America when Europeans colonized the New World. Native beliefs, such as honoring the land and sweat lodge rituals, were suppressed and labeled "pagan" and "unorthodox." Currently, many of those same peoples are rediscovering their native religious rituals and practices. CBC reporter Snookie Catholique travels to Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories, to explore the spiritual quest behind this return, the reaction of older members of the community and the response of the Catholic Church.
