The lieutenant protested, but the commanders disregarded his objections. By nightfall, Uthlaut and his radio operator were seriously wounded, and an Afghan militia soldier and a U.S. soldier were dead. The American soldier was Pat Tillman. The Tillman family was first informed that Pat, who had given up a professional football career to serve his country, had been shot while getting out of a vehicle; twelve days later, they were told that he was killed while running up a hill in pursuit of the enemy. Weeks afterward, they learned that he had been shot by his own troops in a "friendly fire" incident. This is a chronicle of their efforts to ascertain the true circumstances of Pat's death and the reasons why the Army gave the family and the public a false story.--From publisher description. 000323505 60010 $$aTillman, Pat,$$d1976-2004. 000323505 650_0 $$aFootball players$$zUnited States$$vBiography. 000323505 650_0 $$aSoldiers$$zUnited States. 000323505 650_0 $$aAfghan War, 2001-$$zUnited States. 000323505 650_0 $$aAfghan War, 2001-$$xCasualties. 000323505 650_0 $$aMothers of war casualties$$zUnited States. 000323505 7001_ $$aZacchino, Narda. 000323505 85200 $$bgen$$hGV939.T49$$iT55$$i2008 000323505 85642 $$3Publisher description$$uhttp://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0812/2008005542-d.html 000323505 85642 $$3Contributor biographical information$$uhttp://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0812/2008005542-b.html 000323505 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:323505$$pGLOBAL_SET 000323505 980__ $$aBIB 000323505 980__ $$aBOOK 000323505 994__ $$aC0$$bISE
