The majority of Japanese Americans complied with government actions during this period, including the drafting of Japanese Americans into military service. However, some two hundred Japanese Americans drafted into the army refused to serve in combat while their families languished in internment camps. The history of Japanese Americans in World War II does not record the stories of these resisters. It does not mention the War Department Special Organization, to which many of them were transferred, or the individuals who were tried and sentenced by military courts to long prison terms. The two hundred conscientious military resisters felt betrayed by the government and viewed the decision to imprison Japanese Americans as an immoral acquiescence to West Coast racism."--pub. desc. 000439047 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 000439047 650_0 $$aWorld War, 1939-1945$$xParticipation, Japanese American. 000439047 650_0 $$aInsubordination$$zUnited States$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000439047 650_0 $$aSelective conscientious objection$$zUnited States$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000439047 650_0 $$aJapanese Americans$$xSocial conditions$$y20th century. 000439047 651_0 $$aUnited States$$xArmed Forces$$xJapanese Americans$$xSocial conditions$$y20th century. 000439047 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aCastelnuovo, Shirley, 1930-$$tSoldiers of conscience.$$dWestport, Conn. : Praeger, 2008$$z9780313353307$$w(DLC) 2008008792$$w(OCoLC)192081660 000439047 8520_ $$bacq 000439047 85280 $$bebk$$hProQuest Ebook Central 000439047 85280 $$bebk$$hProQuest Ebook Central Academic Complete 000439047 85640 $$3ProQuest Ebook Central$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/usiricelib-ebooks/detail.action?docID=3001277$$zOnline Access 000439047 85640 $$3ProQuest Ebook Central Academic Complete$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/usiricelib-ebooks/detail.action?docID=3001277$$zOnline Access 000439047 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:439047$$pGLOBAL_SET 000439047 980__ $$aEBOOK$$aEBOOK 000439047 980__ $$aBIB 000439047 982__ $$aEbook 000439047 983__ $$aOnline
