A hunting party is interrupted by the arrival of a notorious count, who is believed to have murdered his brother. The uninvited guest sets in motion an elaborate plot to resurrect the ghosts of the past and bring secrets of his brother's death to light.

Reconstructed in 2002 from an original negative from the Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv, Berlin, and a nitrate print with Portuguese intertitles from the Fundacao Cinemateca Brasileira.
"The text of the intertitles was derived from extant "flash titles," supplemented with surviving scripts and a title list prepared by the production company Decla-Bioscop on March 13, 1921"--Opening titles.
Originally released as a motion picture in 1921.
Released in 2009 as part of the 6 DVD set Murnau, by Kino International.
