In examining how four artists and writers represented fascist leaders, Annalisa Zox-Weaver aims to achieve a more complex understanding of the modernist political imagination. She examines how photographer Lee Miller, filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, writer Gertrude Stein and journalist Janet Flanner interpret, dramatize and exploit Hitler, Göring and Pétain. Within their own artistic medium, each of these modernists explore confrontations between private and public identity, and historical narrative and the construction of myth. This study makes use of extensive archival material, such as letters, photographs, journals, unpublished manuscripts and ephemera and includes ten illustrations. This interdisciplinary perspective opens up wider discussions of the relationship between artists and dictators, modernism and fascism, and authority and representation"--$$cProvided by publisher. 000455176 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 000455176 650_0 $$aFascism and art. 000455176 650_0 $$aDictators in art. 000455176 650_0 $$aModernism (Art)$$xThemes, motives. 000455176 650_0 $$aArts, Modern$$y20th century$$xThemes, motives. 000455176 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 000455176 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aZox-Weaver, Annalisa.$$tWomen modernists and fascism.$$dCambridge ; New York : Cambridge University Press, 2011$$z9781107008526$$w(DLC) 2011026297$$w(OCoLC)721888623 000455176 8520_ $$bacq 000455176 85280 $$bebk$$hEBSCOhost 000455176 85640 $$3EBSCOhost$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=409044$$zOnline Access 000455176 85641 $$3Table of contents only$$uhttp://catdir.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy1113/2011026297-t.html 000455176 85642 $$3Publisher description$$uhttp://catdir.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy1113/2011026297-d.html 000455176 85642 $$3Contributor biographical information$$uhttp://catdir.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy1113/2011026297-b.html 000455176 85642 $$3Cover image$$uhttp://assets.cambridge.org/97811070/08526/cover/9781107008526.jpg 000455176 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:455176$$pGLOBAL_SET 000455176 980__ $$aEBOOK 000455176 980__ $$aBIB 000455176 982__ $$aEbook 000455176 983__ $$aOnline 000455176 994__ $$a92$$bISE 000455176 999__ $$z634971240637163069
