"Some extracts (slightly adapted) from Defoe's The original power of the collective body of the people of England (1702 [but actually published 27. December 1701 (Moore)]) misapplied (see p.7) so as to appear an encouragement to Queen Anne to dismiss the Godolphin ministry an dissolve Parliament. It is not clear exactly in what spirit this crude piece of trickery was perpetrated, but it is impossible to suppose Defoe himself responsible"--Furbank and Owens, Defoe de-attributions.
