A compleat sporting table. [electronic resource] : Edgar first preserved the game with rigorous orders, ... but they were eased by Canute, ... William the Conqueror did not regard them ... the barons were exasperated, and took up arms, and forced King John to restore them to their antient liberties in two charters, viz. Magna Charta and Charta Forestæ. Thus their grievances were removed, and the game preserved from time to time by laws, as will be shewn in this table.
