The text of vol. 1 is a re-issue of the sheets of the 1771 edition, with a new titlepage and preliminary matter.
Many plates of vol. 1 have been re-engraved, some enlarged and all numbered and signed either by J. Newton or W. Newton.
Imprints of both volumes have been pasted over with a label reading: "printed for James Newton, 32, Thornhaugh Street, Bedford Square; and sold by I. and J. Taylor, Holborn; R. Faulder, New Bond Street; P. Elmsly, Strand; and T. Sewell, Cornhill".
