"[Samuel] Johnson dictated to the culprit [Lauder] a confession, published as 'A letter to the Reverend Mr. Douglas, occasioned by his Vindication of Milton' in which he acknowledged his fraud, but had the effrontery to append to it 'testimonies concerning Mr. Lauder' and a disingenuous postscript."
