Sir, Since I had the honour of being appointed second assistant-surgeon to the London-Hospital, I have diligently attended to the duties of that station, have never failed visiting the patients at least once daily, and, at the instance of Mr. Neale, have performed nearly all the operations required in the cases under his care. Mr. White has equal services to plead, and is first assistant-surgeon, I cannot, therefore, oppose his pretensions upon the present vacancy in the office of surgeon. I rest, however, upon your candour to pardon the liberty I take, in endeavouring to gurard against in influence, that, otherwise, might prove hurtful to my interest upon the next occasion. Allow me, then, to hope, that whatever share I may possess of your good opinion, I shall not be deprived of the fruit of it, but that I may rely on your countenance and support, upon the next vancancy. ...
