Lu describes the fabrication of electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) UTLC plates using an in-situ crosslinking electrospinning technique. The author improved the efficiency of PVA plates greatly compared to the efficiency of silica HPTLC plates. Also highlighted in this thesis is an edge-plane based ordered-carbon surface that provides unique selectivity in liquid chromatography. Further developments include polar analytes, such as amino acids, nucleotides and nucleosides which can be well-retained and separated in the edge-plane ordered-carbon stationary phase. Also, the author studied and detected mass spectra of organic polymers as high as 900,000 Da, the highest molecular weight that has been studied by SALDI to date using the carbon nanofibrous substrate. This thesis has led to a number of publications in high-impact journals. 000726995 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed May 15, 2015). 000726995 650_0 $$aLiquid chromatography. 000726995 650_0 $$aNanofibers. 000726995 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783319077482 000726995 830_0 $$aSpringer theses. 000726995 852__ $$bebk 000726995 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-07749-9$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000726995 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:726995$$pGLOBAL_SET 000726995 980__ $$aEBOOK 000726995 980__ $$aBIB 000726995 982__ $$aEbook 000726995 983__ $$aOnline 000726995 994__ $$a92$$bISE
