These organizations have a unique need for managing transitions effectively. Compared to private organizations: they have a relatively high frequency of management transitions due to the terms of elected and appointed officials, and these new managers more often come from outside the organization. Through an mixed-methods study of criminal justice command level staff in New York state, researchers found a number of key components to successful transitions. Based on their study, the researchers prepared a set of guidelines called the Command Transition Matrix. This tool is aimed at police and public administration leadership. The methodology used to develop it will be of interest to researchers in Criminal Justice Administration, Public Policy, and Management Science. 000753804 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed February 16, 2016). 000753804 650_0 $$aPolice administration$$xResearch$$zUnited States. 000753804 650_0 $$aLaw enforcement$$zUnited States. 000753804 650_0 $$aCriminal justice, Administration of$$zUnited States. 000753804 650_0 $$aCriminal justice personnel$$xJob satisfaction$$zUnited States. 000753804 650_0 $$aExecutive succession. 000753804 7001_ $$aPhilo, Raymond L.,$$eauthor. 000753804 7001_ $$aCallisto., Anthony,$$eauthor. 000753804 7001_ $$aSmith, Polly J.,$$eauthor. 000753804 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aBrown, James C.$$tCommand Transitions in Public Administration : A Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of Proactive Strategies$$dCham : Springer International Publishing,c2016$$z9783319278438 000753804 830_0 $$aSpringerBriefs in criminology.$$pPolicing. 000753804 852__ $$bebk 000753804 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-27844-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000753804 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:753804$$pGLOBAL_SET 000753804 980__ $$aEBOOK 000753804 980__ $$aBIB 000753804 982__ $$aEbook 000753804 983__ $$aOnline 000753804 994__ $$a92$$bISE
