Northern Ireland is now referred to as a post-conflict society largely due to the absence of political violence and relatively stable political institutions. These are necessary but insufficient conditions for what Galtung has described as 'positive peace', which requires a more fundamental review of the structural inequalities that contributed to the conflict in the first place. Using detailed case studies the authors illustrate the role played by voluntary and community sector groups, funded by Atlantic Philanthropies, in influencing the public policy agenda and securing long term systemic changes. They also critique the work of Atlantic as a 'pay to play' organization whose original mission moved from funding the higher education sector on the island of Ireland to become a key foundation with a significant role in the peace process. 000755666 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed June 24, 2016). 000755666 650_0 $$aPeace-building$$zNorthern Ireland. 000755666 650_0 $$aPeace. 000755666 650_0 $$aCivil society$$zNorthern Ireland. 000755666 651_0 $$aNorthern Ireland$$xPolitics and government$$y1998- 000755666 651_0 $$aNorthern Ireland$$xSocial conditions$$y1969- 000755666 7001_ $$aQuirk, Pádraic,$$d1969-$$eauthor. 000755666 852__ $$bebk 000755666 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1057/978-1-137-46269-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000755666 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:755666$$pGLOBAL_SET 000755666 980__ $$aEBOOK 000755666 980__ $$aBIB 000755666 982__ $$aEbook 000755666 983__ $$aOnline 000755666 994__ $$a92$$bISE
