It argues that after the initial year the war became an 'occasional war' in that it was assumed that the empire would triumph. But it also laid the foundations for reactions to the outbreak of the Great War in 1914. This is the first exploration of the place of the Boer War in Australian history at the community level. Indeed, even at the national level the literature is limited. It is often forgotten that, despite the claims that Australia became a federation via peaceful means, the colonies and the new nation were, in fact, at war. This study aims to bring back into focus a forgotten part of Australian and imperial history, and argues that the Australian experience of the Boer War was more than the execution of Morant and Hancock. 000756204 650_0 $$aSouth African War, 1899-1902. 000756204 650_0 $$aAfrica, Sub-Saharan$$xHistory. 000756204 650_0 $$aAustralia$$xHistory. 000756204 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3319308246$$z9783319308241$$w(OCoLC)938384734 000756204 852__ $$bebk 000756204 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-30825-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000756204 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:756204$$pGLOBAL_SET 000756204 980__ $$aEBOOK 000756204 980__ $$aBIB 000756204 982__ $$aEbook 000756204 983__ $$aOnline 000756204 994__ $$a92$$bISE
