Summary
This text is the only detailed exploration of the theme of time in Ecclesiastes. It argues that time is not only a central theme in Ecclesiastes, but one which provides the book with much of its thematic coherence. Analysing a number of particularly important passages in detail, this book argues that Ecclesiastes depicts the temporal reality as extremely problematic for human attempts to live meaningfully. This is especially due to the tension which the book's narrator perceives between the temporal reality of the world and the human experience of time.
