This collection of papers brings together a scholarly range of international, interdisciplinary work on youth, with a specific focus on the body. The authors engage with conceptual, empirical and pedagogical approaches which counteract perspectives that view young people’s bodies primarily as ‘problems’ to be managed, or as sites of risk or deviance. The authors demonstrate that a focus on the body allows us to explore a range of additional dimensions in seeking to understand the experiences of young people. The research is situated across a range of sites in Australia, North America, Britain, Canada, Asia and Africa, drawing on a range of disciplines including sociology, education and cultural studies in the process. This collection aims to demonstrate – theoretically, empirically and pedagogically – the implications that emerge from a reframed approach to understanding children and youth by focusing on the body and embodiment. 000760749 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed February 24, 2016). 000760749 650_0 $$aYouth development. 000760749 650_0 $$aChild development. 000760749 650_0 $$aYouth$$xHealth and hygiene. 000760749 650_0 $$aChildren$$xHealth and hygiene. 000760749 7001_ $$aCoffey, Julia,$$eeditor. 000760749 7001_ $$aBudgeon, Shelley,$$d1967-$$eeditor. 000760749 7001_ $$aCahill, Helen,$$eeditor. 000760749 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aCoffey, Julia$$tLearning Bodies : The Body in Youth and Childhood Studies$$dSingapore : Springer Singapore,c2016$$z9789811003042 000760749 830_0 $$aPerspectives on children and young people ;$$vv. 2. 000760749 852__ $$bebk 000760749 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-10-0306-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000760749 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:760749$$pGLOBAL_SET 000760749 980__ $$aEBOOK 000760749 980__ $$aBIB 000760749 982__ $$aEbook 000760749 983__ $$aOnline 000760749 994__ $$a92$$bISE
