In 2009, Obama publicly pledged "a new beginning in US-Muslim relations," causing eager expectation of a clear shift in US foreign policy after the election of the 44th president of the United States. However, the achievement of such a shift was made particularly difficult by the existence of multiple, and sometimes conflicting, US interests in the region which influenced the Obama administration's response to the popular uprisings in five Muslim-majority countries: Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Libya, and Syria. After providing a detailed analysis of the traditional features of both US foreign policy rhetoric and practice, this book turns its focus to the Obama administration's response to the 2011 Arab Awakening to determine whether Obama's foreign policy has indeed brought about a new beginning in US-Muslim relations.<. 000760874 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed June 29, 2016) 000760874 60010 $$aObama, Barack. 000760874 651_0 $$aUnited States$$xForeign relations$$zArab countries. 000760874 651_0 $$aArab countries$$xForeign relations$$zUnited States. 000760874 830_0 $$aMiddle East Today Ser. 000760874 852__ $$bebk 000760874 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1057/978-1-137-58362-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000760874 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:760874$$pGLOBAL_SET 000760874 980__ $$aEBOOK 000760874 980__ $$aBIB 000760874 982__ $$aEbook 000760874 983__ $$aOnline 000760874 994__ $$a92$$bISE
