The chapters review exhaustively the key recent research on this limestone karstic site, which is located near the village of the same name in the region of Nagorno Karabagh in the south-eastern end of the Lesser Caucasus. The site is significant due to its geographic location at an important migratory crossroad between Africa and Eurasia. These caves contain an almost complete sedimentary sequence of the transition between H.heidelbergensis and H. neanderthalensis continuing to later Pleistocene and Holocene stratified sediment. The site is also important due to the discovery of Neanderthal remains by the current research group in addition to the Middle Pleistocene hominin fossils during a previous phase of excavation work led by M. Huseinov. At the heart of this book is the matter of how this site relates to human evolution. 000763123 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed August 15, 2016). 000763123 650_0 $$aGeology$$zCaucasus, South. 000763123 650_0 $$aPaleobiology$$zCaucasus, South. 000763123 7001_ $$aFernández-Jalvo, Yolanda,$$eeditor. 000763123 7001_ $$aKing, Tania,$$eeditor. 000763123 7001_ $$aYepiskoposyan, Levon,$$eeditor. 000763123 7001_ $$aAndrews, Peter,$$eeditor. 000763123 830_0 $$aVertebrate paleobiology and paleoanthropology. 000763123 852__ $$bebk 000763123 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-24924-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000763123 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:763123$$pGLOBAL_SET 000763123 980__ $$aEBOOK 000763123 980__ $$aBIB 000763123 982__ $$aEbook 000763123 983__ $$aOnline 000763123 994__ $$a92$$bISE
