While country differences in intergenerational mobility are surprisingly small, gender, regional, racial and ethnic differences were initially large but declined over time. At the end of the 20th century, however, mobility prospects turned to the worse in both countries. In light of these findings, the book develops a narrative account of historical socio-political developments that are likely to have driven the basic resemblances across countries but also account for the initial decline and the more recent increase in intergenerational inequality. 000777075 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed August 23, 2016). 000777075 650_0 $$aSocial mobility$$xHistory$$y20th century$$vCross-cultural studies. 000777075 650_0 $$aSocial mobility$$zGermany$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000777075 650_0 $$aSocial mobility$$zUnited States$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000777075 650_0 $$aSocial classes$$zGermany$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000777075 650_0 $$aSocial classes$$zUnited States$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000777075 650_0 $$aOccupational mobility$$zGermany$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000777075 650_0 $$aOccupational mobility$$zUnited States$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000777075 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aHertel, Florian R.$$tSocial Mobility in the 20th Century : Class Mobility and Occupational Change in the United States and Germany.$$dWiesbaden : Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden, ©2016$$z9783658147846 000777075 852__ $$bebk 000777075 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-658-14785-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000777075 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:777075$$pGLOBAL_SET 000777075 980__ $$aEBOOK 000777075 980__ $$aBIB 000777075 982__ $$aEbook 000777075 983__ $$aOnline 000777075 994__ $$a92$$bISE
