Using multilingual newspapers, foreign worker organizations' archives, and interviews, this book shows that immigrants in the Netherlands and Denmark held a variety of viewpoints about European gender and sexual cultures. Some immigrants felt solidarity with, and even participated in, European social movements that changed norms and laws in favor of women's equality, gay and lesbian rights, and sexual liberation. These histories challenge today's politicians and journalists who strategically link immigration to sexual conservatism, misogyny, and homophobia."--$$cProvided by publisher. 000798363 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed September 14, 2017). 000798363 650_0 $$aImmigrants$$xPolitical activity$$zEurope$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000798363 650_0 $$aFeminism$$zEurope$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000798363 650_0 $$aSexual minorities$$xLegal status, laws, etc.$$zEurope$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000798363 830_0 $$aGenders and sexualities in history. 000798363 852__ $$bebk 000798363 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-49613-9$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000798363 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:798363$$pGLOBAL_SET 000798363 980__ $$aEBOOK 000798363 980__ $$aBIB 000798363 982__ $$aEbook 000798363 983__ $$aOnline 000798363 994__ $$a92$$bISE
