The bodily information considered is mainly that provided by the so-called proprioceptive and interoceptive systems introduced by Sherrington. The authors reconsider this in a new Gibsonian fashion calling it more generally "proprioception", which indicates the complex of all the bodily signals we are aware of and the qualitative experiences these give rise to. The book shows that proprioceptive information understood in this sense is essential for explaining (among others) how we develop broad categories such as animate vs. inanimate, concepts denoting bodily experiences such as hunger or pain as well as emotions and abstract concepts such as friendship and freedom and in accounting for how we master the meanings of the corresponding words in our language. 000800186 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed October 4, 2017). 000800186 650_0 $$aHuman body and language. 000800186 650_0 $$aLanguage and languages$$xPhysiological aspects. 000800186 650_0 $$aProprioception. 000800186 7001_ $$aPastore, Luigi,$$eauthor. 000800186 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3662557614$$z9783662557617$$w(OCoLC)996418360 000800186 830_0 $$aStudies in applied philosophy, epistemology and rational ethics ;$$v40. 000800186 852__ $$bebk 000800186 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-662-55763-1$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000800186 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:800186$$pGLOBAL_SET 000800186 980__ $$aEBOOK 000800186 980__ $$aBIB 000800186 982__ $$aEbook 000800186 983__ $$aOnline 000800186 994__ $$a92$$bISE
