Teacher education is at the forefront of education reforms and yet little is known about the professional lives of those who work within it. Whereas many women are moving into positions of authority in teacher training, some existing women managers are being marginalized within new internally differentiated layers of managerial structures. Yet other female managers, mainly new appointees, seem to endorse the discourses associated with new managerialist practices. Simultaneously some women who manage in teacher training are engaged in a struggle for survival individually and professionally. In the main, men seem to be missing from authority positions and will conclude that, in the current climate, the management of teacher training is 'no job for a man'. 000806667 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 000806667 650_0 $$aTeacher educators. 000806667 650_0 $$aUniversities and colleges$$xSociological aspects. 000806667 650_0 $$aLeadership in women. 000806667 650_0 $$aWomen in higher education. 000806667 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aThompson, Barbara.$$tGender, Management and Leadership in Initial Teacher Education : Managing to Survive in the Education Marketplace?$$dLondon : Palgrave Macmillan UK, ©2016$$z9781137490506 000806667 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in gender and education. 000806667 852__ $$bebk 000806667 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1057/978-1-137-49051-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000806667 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:806667$$pGLOBAL_SET 000806667 980__ $$aEBOOK 000806667 980__ $$aBIB 000806667 982__ $$aEbook 000806667 983__ $$aOnline 000806667 994__ $$a92$$bISE
