Arturo asked. Amid the scholars, poets, authors, and artists of the Harlem Renaissance stood an Afro-Puerto Rican named Arturo Schomburg. This law clerk's life's passion was to collect books, letters, music, and art from Africa and the African diaspora and bring to light the achievements of people of African descent through the ages. When Schomburg's collection became so big it began to overflow his house (and his wife threatened to mutiny), he turned to the New York Public Library, where he created and curated a collection that was the cornerstone of a new Negro Division. A century later, his groundbreaking collection, known as the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, has become a beacon to scholars all over the world. 000808120 5211_ $$aAges 9-12. 000808120 60010 $$aSchomburg, Arthur Alfonso,$$d1874-1938$$vJuvenile literature. 000808120 61020 $$aSchomburg Collection of Negro Literature and History$$vJuvenile literature. 000808120 650_0 $$aAfrican American historians$$vBiography$$vJuvenile literature. 000808120 650_0 $$aHistorians$$zUnited States$$vBiography$$vJuvenile literature. 000808120 650_0 $$aAfrican American book collectors$$vBiography$$vJuvenile literature. 000808120 650_0 $$aBook collectors$$zUnited States$$vBiography$$vJuvenile literature. 000808120 650_0 $$aPuerto Ricans$$zNew York (State)$$zNew York$$vBiography$$vJuvenile literature. 000808120 650_0 $$aAfrican Americans$$xIntellectual life$$y20th century$$vJuvenile literature. 000808120 650_1 $$aAfrican American historians. 000808120 650_1 $$aHistorians. 000808120 650_1 $$aAfrican American book collectors. 000808120 650_1 $$aBook collectors. 000808120 650_1 $$aPuerto Ricans. 000808120 650_1 $$aAfrican Americans$$vBiography. 000808120 655_7 $$aPicture books.$$2lcgft 000808120 655_7 $$aBiographies.$$2lcgft 000808120 7001_ $$aVelasquez, Eric,$$eillustrator. 000808120 85200 $$bcmc$$hE185.97.S36$$iW43$$i2017 000808120 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:808120$$pGLOBAL_SET 000808120 980__ $$aBIB 000808120 980__ $$aBOOK
