Famed poets like Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon, Isaac Rosenberg, and Ivor Gurney had earned their literary authority because of their experience fighting in the trenches during World War I, but civilian poets who wished to write about warfare doubted their own authority to write about the battles from afar. In 'News of War', Professor Rachel Galvin argues that this standard is a strongly gendered norm that is problematic for women writers, who were much less likely to have firsthand experience with war. 000808574 588__ $$aDescription based on online resource; title from home page (viewed on October 16, 2017). 000808574 650_0 $$aWar poetry, English$$xHistory and criticism. 000808574 650_0 $$aEnglish poetry$$y20th century$$xHistory and criticism. 000808574 650_0 $$aWorld War, 1939-1945$$zGreat Britain$$xLiterature and the war. 000808574 650_0 $$aWorld War, 1939-1945$$xLiterature and the war. 000808574 650_0 $$aWar poetry$$xHistory and criticism. 000808574 650_0 $$aJournalism$$zGreat Britain$$xHistory$$y20th century. 000808574 651_0 $$aSpain$$xHistory$$yCivil War, 1936-1939$$xLiterature and the war. 000808574 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9780190623920 000808574 85280 $$bebk$$hOxford Scholarship Online 000808574 85640 $$3Oxford scholarship online$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780190623920.001.0001$$zOnline Access 000808574 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:808574$$pGLOBAL_SET 000808574 980__ $$aEBOOK 000808574 980__ $$aBIB 000808574 982__ $$aEbook 000808574 983__ $$aOnline
