Building on a conceptual and legal grounding in sexuality studies and the new sociology of childhood, the authors debate the age of consent, teenage pregnany, sexual diversity, sexualisation, sex education and sexual literacy, paedophilia, and sex in the digital age. Whilst Moore and Reynolds recognise the necessity of child protection and safeguarding in the context of risk, danger and harm, they also argue that where these stifle children's sexual knowledge, understanding, expression and experience, they contribute to a climate of fear, ignorance and bad experiences or harms. What is necessary is to balance safeguarding with enabling, and encourage judicious understandings that advance from a rigid developmental model to one that recognises pleasure and excitement in children's nascent sexual lives. Exploring that balance through their chosen issues, they seek to encourage changed thinking in professional, personal and academic contexts, and speculate that children might teach adults something about the way they think about sex. Childhood and Sexuality will be of interest to students, scholars and professionals across a range of subjects and disciplines including sociology, social work, criminology, and youth studies. 000824274 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed November 2, 2017). 000824274 650_0 $$aChildren and sex. 000824274 650_0 $$aChildren$$xSexual behavior. 000824274 7001_ $$aReynolds, Paul,$$d1962-$$eauthor. 000824274 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aMoore, Allison (Allison J.).$$tChildhood and sexuality.$$dLondon, United Kingdom : Palgrave Macmillan, [2018]$$z9781137524959$$w(DLC) 2017957220$$w(OCoLC)934194293 000824274 830_0 $$aStudies in childhood and youth. 000824274 852__ $$bebk 000824274 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1057/978-1-137-52497-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000824274 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:824274$$pGLOBAL_SET 000824274 980__ $$aEBOOK 000824274 980__ $$aBIB 000824274 982__ $$aEbook 000824274 983__ $$aOnline 000824274 994__ $$a92$$bISE
