Post-communist Europe has long raised two puzzles for scholars of women's representation in politics. First, why have women been under-represented in politics in every country in the region since communism's collapse? Secondly, why are there relatively few cases where women's advocates have been successful in pressing for change? This comparative study of Europe's new democracies argues that these puzzles are best understood as questions about male dominance - that is, about the mechanisms that sustain, or, alternatively, change long-established patterns of male over-representation in politics over time. 000824926 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 000824926 650_0 $$aPolitical science$$zEurope. 000824926 650_0 $$aMale domination (Social structure)$$zEurope. 000824926 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aChiva, Cristina$$tGender, Institutions and Political Representation : Reproducing Male Dominance in Europe's New Democracies$$dLondon : Palgrave Macmillan UK,c2017$$z9781137011763 000824926 830_0 $$aGender and politics. 000824926 852__ $$bebk 000824926 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1057/978-1-137-01177-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000824926 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:824926$$pGLOBAL_SET 000824926 980__ $$aEBOOK 000824926 980__ $$aBIB 000824926 982__ $$aEbook 000824926 983__ $$aOnline 000824926 994__ $$a92$$bISE
