However, a contrasting and more varied perspective is emerging within the field of anthropology. So, while the phenomenon of children as workers is ephemeral in WEIRD societies and in the literature on child development, there is ample cross-cultural and historical evidence of children making vital contributions to the family economy. Children's labor is of great interest to researchers but it is treated as extra-cultural, an aberration that must be controlled. Work as a central component in children's lives, development, and identity goes unappreciated. This book aims to rectify that omission by surveying and synthesizing a very robust corpus of material. Two prominent themes receive particular emphasis: the processes involved in learning to work, and the interaction between ontogeny and children's roles as workers. 000825218 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed December 20, 2017). 000825218 650_0 $$aChild labor. 000825218 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z1137533536$$z9781137533531$$w(OCoLC)1006452340 000825218 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies on the anthropology of childhood and youth. 000825218 852__ $$bebk 000825218 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1057/978-1-137-53351-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000825218 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:825218$$pGLOBAL_SET 000825218 980__ $$aEBOOK 000825218 980__ $$aBIB 000825218 982__ $$aEbook 000825218 983__ $$aOnline 000825218 994__ $$a92$$bISE
