Attributed to Eveline M. Alexander by Sandra L. Myres, author of "Cavalry wife, the diary of Eveline M. Alexander." In her preliminary bibliography on army wives in the trans-Mississippi West, Myres suggests that it was written between 1868 and 1869 while Colonel Alexander served as commanding officer at Fort McDowell, Arizona.
