At two ends of just one decade, 1997-2007, these five countries all weathered the shocks of an East Asian financial crisis and a global financial crisis. Some economies might have buckled completely under those shocks and been condemned to long-term stagnation. Yet these economies emerged with continued if slower economic growth. An important theme of this book is that their resilience has been partly derived from the pursuit of growth and competitiveness along lesser known pathways. The chapters of this book take a novel approach to South East Asia's search for growth and improvement. They provide original insights into actual cases of intermediate ways of achieving growth, upgrading and income improvement in non-privileged sectors. Such cases hold more relevant lessons for the majority of developing countries than the experiences of highly developed economies. 000838263 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 000838263 650_0 $$aEconomic development$$zSoutheast Asia. 000838263 650_0 $$aFinancial crises$$zSoutheast Asia. 000838263 651_0 $$aIndonesia$$xEconomic conditions$$y21st century. 000838263 651_0 $$aMalaysia$$xEconomic conditions$$y21st century. 000838263 651_0 $$aPhilippines$$xEconomic conditions$$y21st century. 000838263 651_0 $$aThailand$$xEconomic conditions$$y21st century. 000838263 651_0 $$aVietnam$$xEconomic conditions$$y21st century. 000838263 7001_ $$aKhoo, Boo Teik,$$d1955-$$eeditor. 000838263 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tSoutheast Asia beyond crises and traps.$$dCham, Switzerland : Palgrave Macmillan, [2017]$$z9783319550374$$w(DLC) 2017951838$$w(OCoLC)1005140725 000838263 830_0 $$aStudies in economic transition. 000838263 852__ $$bebk 000838263 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-55038-1$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000838263 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:838263$$pGLOBAL_SET 000838263 980__ $$aEBOOK 000838263 980__ $$aBIB 000838263 982__ $$aEbook 000838263 983__ $$aOnline 000838263 994__ $$a92$$bISE
