Founded in the post-World War II era, MFIs, collectively known as the Bretton Woods Financial Institutions (BWFIs), were created to promote global economic development and financial stability. This book argues, however, that the governance structures and policies of the MFIs have been biased in favour of developed country members, excluding less economically advanced countries from decision-making processes and perpetuating the economic status quo. Considering the inability of MFIs to adequately respond to the financial needs of developing countries, the book raises an alternative proposal for BWFI reform, based on the following criteria: (i) encouraging development incentives, (ii) favouring development learning through knowledge transfer and easing its appropriation by developing countries, and (iii) guiding and facilitating access to private international financial markets. Combining historical economic analysis with policy recommendations for the future, this book will be of particular interest to students and researchers of development economics, governance, and MFIs, as well as practitioners working with the institutions studied.--$$cProvided by publisher. 000856275 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (viewed September, 17, 2018). 000856275 61020 $$aBretton Woods Financial Institutions. 000856275 61020 $$aWorld Bank. 000856275 650_0 $$aEconomic assistance. 000856275 650_0 $$aInternational relations. 000856275 7112_ $$aUnited Nations Monetary and Financial Conference$$d(1944 :$$cBretton Woods, N.H.) 000856275 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aNaciri, Ahmed.$$tGovernance structures of the Bretton Woods Financial Institutions.$$dCham, Switzerland : Springer, 2018$$z3319979051$$z9783319979052$$w(OCoLC)1044822675 000856275 830_0 $$aSpringerBriefs in economics. 000856275 852__ $$bebk 000856275 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-97906-9$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000856275 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:856275$$pGLOBAL_SET 000856275 980__ $$aEBOOK 000856275 980__ $$aBIB 000856275 982__ $$aEbook 000856275 983__ $$aOnline 000856275 994__ $$a92$$bISE
