Pomeroy notes that Polar scenes was first published in London by J. Harris in 1821. According to Pomeroy, text of the edition in hand is nearly identical to Campe's Surprising adventures of four Russian sailors at the Island of Spitzbergen, published by Samuel Wood & Sons and Samuel S.
