Summary
Containing an array of correspondence regarding the activities of the Africa Squadron, a unit of the U.S. Navy that was deployed to suppress the slave trade on the West Coast of Africa, this collection is derived from that of the Office of Naval Records and Library and consists of seven volumes of letters written between January, 1845 and September, 1860, the Squadron's most active period. The commanders' communiquš, including official reports of enforcement actions, are arranged in chronological order.
