Founded by activists and community historians during the AIDS crisis in San Francisco, its more than 3,000 titles document the building of queer communities from 1947 to 2004. Its materials come from big cities and small towns in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Latin America. The materials included here point to the critical role that community-building and support groups played in the LGBT community. One highlight is the extensive selection of national and local newsletters from Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), the largest support group for families, friends, and allies of LGBT people. There are also newsletters from some of the earliest groups that supported LGBT families, parents, and prospective parents. This collection displays the important role that community events and professional groups have played in LGBT history. Newsletters document the Gay Games, an Olympic-style athletic event in 1982, and Frameline, the oldest and largest LGBT film festival. The collection also contains newsletters from professional groups like the Bay Area Network of Gay and Lesbian Educators (BANGLE), Bay Area Career Women and the Golden Gate Business Association, which provided mentoring, education, and professional support within their communities. 000883677 650_0 $$aSexual minorities$$vPeriodicals. 000883677 650_0 $$aGay rights. 000883677 650_0 $$aHomosexuality$$xHistory. 000883677 650_0 $$aLesbians$$vPeriodicals. 000883677 650_0 $$aLesbianism$$xHistory. 000883677 650_0 $$aGay rights$$vPeriodicals. 000883677 650_0 $$aGay liberation movement$$vPeriodicals. 000883677 7102_ $$aGay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Historical Society. 000883677 830_0 $$aArchives of Sexuality & Gender: LGBTQ History and Culture since 1940. 000883677 852__ $$bebk 000883677 85640 $$3Gale Archives of Sexuality & Gender$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://gdc.galegroup.com/gdc/artemis/collection/actionWin?&catId=GALE%7CRZRSKZ331985019&action=e&windowstate=normal&mode=view&prodId=AHSI&p=AHSI&userGroupName=usi$$zOnline Access 000883677 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:883677$$pGLOBAL_SET 000883677 980__ $$aEBOOK 000883677 980__ $$aBIB 000883677 982__ $$aEbook 000883677 983__ $$aOnline
