Summary
The Allan Bérubé Papers document the life of Bérubé (1946-2007), a scholar and activist who helped found the San Francisco Lesbian and Gay History Project. Included in this collection are personal and professional papers, photographs, audiovisual presentations, and research files from Bérubés archive. Files pertaining to his extensive research on the Marine Cooks and Stewards Union (MCS) can be found here, including seventy oral histories taken by Bérubé during the course of his work on a book about the MCS. Researchers will find various ephemera associated with Bérubés early life, including photographs, school records, and samples of his creative writing. Also of interest are the papers of Bérubés partner Brian Keith, who died of AIDS in 1986.
