How have the concepts of law and justice been represented in (public) art from the Late Middle Ages onwards? Justices and rulers had their courtrooms, but also churches, decorated with inspiring images. At first, the religious influence was enormous, but starting with the Early Modern Era, new symbols and allegories began appearing. Throughout history, art has been used to legitimise the act of judging, but artists have also satirised the law and the lawyers; architects and artisans have engaged in juridical and judicial projects and, in some criminal cases, convicts have even been sentenced to produce works of art. The book illustrates and contextualises the various interactions between law and justice on the one hand, and their artistic representations in paintings, statues, drawings, tapestries, prints and books on the other. 000898385 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from digital title page (viewed on October 12, 2018). 000898385 650_0 $$aLaw and art$$xHistory. 000898385 650_0 $$aArt$$xHistory. 000898385 7001_ $$aHuygebaert, Stefan,$$eeditor. 000898385 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aHuygebaert, Stefan.$$tArt of Law : Artistic Representations and Iconography of Law and Justice in Context, from the Middle Ages to the First World War.$$dCham : Springer, ©2018$$z9783319907864 000898385 830_0 $$aIus gentium (Dordrecht, Netherlands) 000898385 852__ $$bebk 000898385 85640 $$3SpringerLink$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-319-90787-1$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 000898385 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:898385$$pGLOBAL_SET 000898385 980__ $$aEBOOK 000898385 980__ $$aBIB 000898385 982__ $$aEbook 000898385 983__ $$aOnline 000898385 994__ $$a92$$bISE
