This report has been developed consistent with the methodology outlined in 'A Guide to Cultural Landscape Reports : Content, Process, and Techniques.' This report builds upon previous documentation, including the park's enabling legislation, National Register of Historic Places documentation (2011 draft), and 'General Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement' (2013 draft). Previous cultural landscape research, documentation, and recommendations for Chatham include a 'Historic Structure Report and Preliminary Grounds Study' (1978), 'Preliminary Historic Resource Study' (1982), 'Historic Structure Preservation Guide : Chatham Garden' (1985), and 'Chatham : A Landscape Introduction' (2006). Additional research for this report has been undertaken at a thorough level of investigation, which involves review of all available historic sources, including primary and secondary source material. These sources are included in the references section. This report is organized into four chapters beginning with a detailed site history that traces the physical evolution of the Chatham landscape, followed by up-to date documentation of the existing conditions, an analysis and evaluation of the significance and integrity of the Chatham landscape based on existing National Register of Historic Places documentation, and treatment recommendations that provide guidance for the long-term management of the landscape. Additional detailed information is included in appendices, including a core area tree inventory and vegetation inventory for the walled garden"--}, recid = {915502}, pages = {xxii, 518 pages :}, }
