Despite the serious and long-term consequences for victims as well as their families, communities, and society, efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes are largely under supported, inefficient, uncoordinated, and unevaluated. Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States examines commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents of the United States under age 18. According to this report, efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes require better collaborative approaches that build upon the capabilities of people and entities from a range of sectors. In addition, such efforts need to confront demand and the individuals who commit and benefit from these crimes. The report recommends increased awareness and understanding, strengthening of the law's response, strengthening of research to advance understanding and to support the development of prevention and intervention strategies, support for multi-sector and interagency collaboration, and creation of a digital information-sharing platform. A nation that is unaware of these problems or disengaged from solutions unwittingly contributes to the ongoing abuse of minors. If acted upon in a coordinated and comprehensive manner, the recommendations of Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States can help advance and strengthen the nation's emerging efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of minors in the United States"--Publisher's description. 000927049 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 000927049 650_0 $$aChild trafficking$$zUnited States. 000927049 650_0 $$aHuman trafficking$$zUnited States. 000927049 7001_ $$aClayton, Ellen Wright,$$eeditor. 000927049 7001_ $$aKrugman, Richard D.,$$d1942-$$eeditor. 000927049 7001_ $$aSimon, Patti,$$eeditor. 000927049 7102_ $$aNational Research Council (U.S.).$$bCommittee on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States,$$eissuing body. 000927049 7102_ $$aNational Research Council (U.S.).$$bBoard on Children, Youth, and Families,$$eissuing body. 000927049 7102_ $$aNational Research Council (U.S.).$$bCommittee on Law and Justice,$$eissuing body. 000927049 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.).$$tConfronting commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of minors in the United States : a guide for the legal sector.$$dWashington, District of Columbia : National Academies Press, 2013$$z9780309313407$$w(OCoLC)ocn849593072$$w(DLC) 2013417545 000927049 852__ $$bebk 000927049 85640 $$3ProQuest Ebook Central Academic Complete$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/usiricelib-ebooks/detail.action?docID=3379388$$zOnline Access 000927049 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:927049$$pGLOBAL_SET 000927049 980__ $$aEBOOK 000927049 980__ $$aBIB 000927049 982__ $$aEbook 000927049 983__ $$aOnline
